As part of Humber’s commitment to advancing the inclusion of Black students, professors, and staff, and pursuant to section 14 of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences invites candidates of Black/African descent (including African peoples and African heritage peoples from the Caribbean and the Latin and North Americas) to apply for the following three positions:

Professor, Mathematics  

The successful candidate will teach a number of mathematics and statistics courses across the college, which may include degree-level courses in calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, statistics, and numerical methods. A completed PhD degree in applied mathematics, engineering, physics, or a related field is required, as is proficiency in MATLAB. Strong programming skills and knowledge of physics are assets. 


Professor, Social Sciences and General Education   

The successful candidate will teach a number of general education and degree breadth courses in the social sciences, in addition to teaching Humber’s Introduction to Arts and Sciences course. The successful candidate will also develop and teach new curriculum in their field of study. A Master’s degree in Black studies, gender studies, sociology, political studies, or a related field is required. Teaching credentials such as TESL accreditation is an asset.   


Professor, Writing and Communications

The successful candidate will teach and develop curriculum for a variety of core writing and communications courses across multiple programs and credential levels at the college. In addition, the candidate may be asked to teach in and develop curriculum for the Professional Writing and Communications Graduate Certificate program. A Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Rhetoric and Composition, Professional Communication, Technical Communication, Applied Linguistics, Creative Writing, or English is required. Candidates with educational backgrounds in other fields are invited to demonstrate how their education can be adapted to teaching writing and communications.


For each position, in addition to teaching and assessing student progress and achievement, the candidate will develop culturally competent and relevant curriculum, design or revise specific courses, work collaboratively with colleagues, and participate in committees, applied research projects, and other initiatives. Teaching could be assigned at any Humber campus and in the online environment.

In addition to the qualifications described above for each of the professor positions, the successful candidates will demonstrate the following: 

  • previous teaching experience, which can include the role of professor, teacher, teaching assistant, workshop facilitator, or other knowledge sharing and mentorship roles

  • engaging and effective teaching skills to help students achieve learning outcomes in both in-class and online adult learning environments

  • ability to coach, support, and manage the learning environment for a diverse group of students using culturally responsive, equity-informed pedagogies 

  • cultural competency to develop and deliver culturally responsive curriculum 

  • ability to foster innovation and positive change in all aspects of the professor role 

  • ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture 



The successful candidate must be able to work at North Campus, Lakeshore Campus or the International Graduate School Campus (IGS).


Salary, Benefits, and Pension

The salary range for full-time professors is $67,893 to $117,697 per annum. Humber is committed to pay equity when establishing starting salaries, which are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees. The college also offers a comprehensive pension and benefits package.
