The Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences, School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences in the Faculty of Science at Western University is pleased to announce a search for a fiveyear limitedterm position at the rank of Lecturer in Actuarial Science. The salary will be
with the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience. The minimal degree requirement is a B.Sc. in Actuarial Science. Candidates will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor if they hold a Ph.D. in Actuarial Science. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2022.

The successful candidate must have attained the designation of Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA). An additional designation either of an Associate or of a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) is desirable. Actuarial/insurance experience in the industry
existing collaborations or interest in collaborations with industrial partners are a desirable asset. A professional designation such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) is a valuable addition. The successful candidate will provide leadership in the department’s Actuarial
undergraduate program. This position was created in support of the teaching mission of the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences. Duties are divided between Teaching (80%) and Service (20%) activities. Teaching duties will include up to 4.0 full course
primarily at the undergraduate level, and may include some graduate course instruction as appropriate. Teaching duties will also include the development and delivery of online curriculum. Service duties will include support for the administrative coordination of core Actuarial courses and Departmental committee duties as assigned.

The Department is accredited under the CIA’s University Accreditation Program and is an SOArecognized Centre of Actuarial Excellence. The position thus requires a demonstrated commitment to highquality undergraduate teaching and ability to develop timely and innovative courses. In addition to possessing excellent communication skills, the successful candidate must have a record of leadership.

The Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences offers an exceptional environment for interdisciplinary research, teaching, and training in statistics and its applications. It has some 325 undergraduate students and about 75 graduate students pursuing degree programs in actuarial science, financial modelling, statistics and data science; and supported by 24 faculty members. The Department is actively involved in collaborative professional program, the Western Master of Financial Economics (MFE), jointly offered with the Department of Economics, the Faculty of Law, and the Ivey Business School. It recently introduced an undergraduate program in Data Science and professional graduate program in Data Analytics.

The Department is one of the two independent departments together with a research unit constituting the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences.
