TRU is a comprehensive, learner-centred, environmentally responsible institution that serves its regional, national, and international learners and their communities through high quality and flexible education, training, research and scholarship. More than 30,400 students study on campuses in Kamloops, Williams Lake and regional centres throughout the Interior, or through Open Learning in distance or online courses and programs. Research, creation and innovation thrive in TRU’s open, flexible learning environment. The Faculty of Science offers its students a practical, hands-on experience across the spectrum of disciplines in both the lab and the field. With approximately 135 full-time and sessional faculty members across eight undergraduate departments, a cross-disciplinary graduate program, and two research centres, the Faculty is diverse in its scope and range of program offerings. Programs range from certificates, diplomas, undergraduate degrees, to a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences degree. Skills developed in the classroom, the field or in the community, at home or abroad, prepare students for future success in the workplace, graduate studies, or studying within a professional school. As the Faculty’s chief academic and administrative officer, the Dean is responsible to the Provost and Vice-President Academic for providing dynamic and visionary leadership in the articulation and implementation of the Faculty’s evolving strategic plan for professional and career development, education, scholarship and outreach in alignment with TRU’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities. As an accomplished teacher, researcher and/or practitioner, the Dean will possess an open, transparent and collegial style of leadership with the ability to collaborate with colleagues to plan the Faculty’s future. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, be able to demonstrate knowledge of trends and current issues in Sciences and Health Sciences education across diverse settings, and have a record of advocacy, service innovation, scholarly engagement and service to the profession. S/he will have an outstanding academic record, a strong and a deep appreciation for research, teaching and service, and demonstrated experience as an inspirational leader and mentor. An earned doctorate in Science or a related field is preferred, and a strong understanding of the intellectual diversity across the spectrum of disciplines within the Faculty is essential. Thompson Rivers University is strongly committed to fostering diversity within our community.
