Should I pay taxes when purchasing a subscription or book?
If you are a Canadian resident subscriber, you have to pay taxes for the subscription(s) purchased. Taxes are not applicable to subscribers residing outside of Canada.
Shipping and handling charges are included in the subscription price for the current year but are subject to back issues purchased. For all non-Canadian addresses payment is required in US funds.
I'd like to purchase a subscription, but it's July. Will my subscription be active until July of next year?
CMS subscriptions are based on the calendar and volume year. This means that if you purchase a subscription at some point in the year, it will remain active until December 31 of that year. And, once your order has been processed, you will be sent all the issues for this subscription volume which have been published in the volume year and other issues will be mailed according to the printing schedule.
Can I pay for more than one year of subscription?
Yes, you can pay for up to three years in advance for your CMS subscription. In this case, you will secure the current year's rate for the years purchased (rates are subject to change).
How do I get access to my online subscription content?
There are two ways, depending on your type of subscription.
High schools and colleges may optionally choose to use IP-based access rather than username and password. However, to do this, they must pay the institutional rate for the publication and must also sign the same Online Agreement as universities.
If you are at a university and you get a username and password prompt you aren't expecting, then either there is a problem with your institution's subscription, Online Agreement, or registered IP ranges. See below for details.
I still can't access my subscription(s) online (for institutional subscribers only)
Access is granted when three requirements are all met: (i) Your institution must have a current subscription for the publication you are trying to access, (ii) your institution must have registered the appropriate IP address ranges, and (iii) your institution must have sent us a signed Online Agreement.
To troubleshoot the problem:
You can use this web page to help by viewing it from one of the computers that should have access. The IP address of your computer right now is 220.127.116.11. If that address is not in your pre-registered ranges, then you won't get access from the network location you are in now.
What is my CMS web account?
Non-institutional subscribers use their CMS web account to get access to their online subscriptions, to order renewals, to change the delivery address for their print copies and so on. The web account is tied to a subscriber number (or member number for members who subscribe) and you use a username and password, which you choose, to get into it. Web accounts need to be activated in order to use them.
What should I do to activate my web account?
Web accounts need to be activated in order to be used for the first time. When you become a new subscriber (or a new member), the CMS will email you instructions about how to activate your web account wherein you choose a username and password to use.If you are a returning subscriber and for some reason you can not access your account using your username and password, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do you provide perpetual access?
Only current subscribers have access to our protected content. Protected content refers to the last five full volumes (years) plus any issues in the current year. All earlier content is publicly available (currently this means all content published before 2014). Therefore, if you cancel your subscription you do not retain access to those issues published during your subscribed period. Eventually, of course, those issues will be more than five years old and will become freely available.
Can I purchase publications from previous years?
Yes and these are referred to as "back issues". Since back issues are limited in quantity, please contact us at email@example.com with the name of the publication, year and issue number in order to determine availability and price.
I purchased a subscription to the hard-copy edition of one of your publications but my issue still hasn't arrived. Can I claim a replacement copy?
A claim for replacement must be submitted no sooner than two months and no later than six months following the issue's publication date. In the event that an issue is delayed, we will consider the actual publication date rather than the cover date when processing claims.
