    Tenure-Track Position in Applied Stochastics

The Mathematics Department at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) seeks outstanding candidates for one tenure-track position, subject to funding, at the Assistant Professor level, with a starting date of 01 July 2019. A PhD or equivalent in mathematics or a related discipline is required; postdoctoral experience is normally expected.

The successful applicant will have outstanding mathematical talent, demonstrated through publications in top- ranked Mathematics journals, high-impact presentations at major conferences, prizes, the research statement accompanying the application, and strong endorsements from respected referees.

Evidence of high achievement and excellent potential in teaching is also required.

The priority research area is Applied Stochastics. Exceptional candidates from existing or emerging areas of research excellence in the department may also be considered. Appointment at a higher rank may be considered for an applicant with exceptional qualifications. Joint appointments with other UBC departments may be possible.

The position entails developing and maintaining an innovative, externally funded research program in an area of interest to current faculty, teaching effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising graduate students, interacting with related groups in the Department, and supporting the Department's academic mission through service. The salary will be commensurate with experience and research record.

Applications must be submitted through the AMS MathJobs website, http://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/UBC/

Required elements of a complete application include a current CV including a list of publications, a research statement, statements on teaching (preferably supported with teaching evaluations) and diversity (see below), and four signed letters of reference (dated, on letterhead, with at least one addressing the applicant's teaching) submitted directly by the referees. To receive full consideration, completed applications should be received by 30 November 2018.

The Department is an international leader, with over 60 faculty members in a wide variety of fields. It has strong connections with the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), the Banff International Research Station (BIRS), and the UBC Institute of Applied Mathematics (IAM). Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence. An open and diverse community fosters the inclusion of voices that have been underrepresented or discouraged. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been marginalized on any grounds enumerated under the B.C. Human Rights Code, including sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, racialization, disability, political belief, religion, marital or family status, age, and/or status as a First Nation, Metis, Inuit, or Indigenous person.

UBC's strategic plan identifies inclusion as one of our key priorities. We welcome colleagues with the experiences and competencies that can contribute to our principles of inclusion, equity, and diversity throughout campus life. In your application, please include a brief statement describing your experience working with a diverse student body and your contributions to creating/advancing a culture of equity and inclusion on campus or within your discipline.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.
