The Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences (IKBSAS) at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in computational algebra at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will be held in the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics (http://math.ok.ubc.ca/welcome.html) and is expected to start on July 1, 2019.

Applicants must have a PhD in mathematics or a closely related field, with specialization in computational algebra. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of research productivity and proven ability to obtain external funding in support of a successful program of research. They must also show evidence of, or capacity for, excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching and learning; interest in graduate teaching and supervision; and dedication to student mentoring. They are also expected to show evidence of commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful, collegial environment that is conducive to learning and working.

Preference will be given to candidates with scholarly interests in discrete mathematics, coding theory, and optimization. The ability to integrate one's expertise into ongoing scholarly activities in the department and on the campus and to enhance existing strengths in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, and/or Engineering is highly desirable and will be a significant asset.

The Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics, at UBC's Okanagan campus, is a dynamic and highly interdisciplinary unit of nearly 30 faculty members with research clusters in optimization, medical physics, and data science.
