Professor Andrea Fraser to receive the 2019 CMS Excellence in Teaching Award (Feb 11)
OTTAWA, Ontario — The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is pleased to announce that Professor Andrea Fraser (Dalhousie) has been named the 2019 recipient of the CMS Excellence in Teaching Award. Professor Fraser will present a prize lecture and receive her award at the CMS Summer Meeting at the University of Regina, June 7-10, 2019.
Professor Jeremy Quastel to receive the 2019 CMS Jeffery-Williams Prize (Jan 31)
OTTAWA, Ontario — The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is pleased to announce that Jeremy Quastel (Toronto) has been named the recipient of the 2019 CMS Jeffery-Williams Prize for his exceptional contributions to mathematics research. Dr. Jeremy Quastel will receive his award and present a prize lecture during the CMS Summer Meeting in Regina, Saskatchewan, June 7-10, 2019.
In Memoriam - Walter Craig (Jan 25)
The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is saddened to share the news of the passing of distinguished professor Walter Craig (McMaster). Professor Craig was a valuable member of the Society for several years and served as the Director of the Fields Institute from 2013-2015.
The Canadian Mathematical Society and Intact Foundation make Crux Mathematicorum available for free online (Jan 23)
OTTAWA, ON – With the support of the Intact Foundation, the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) will be making Crux Mathematicorum (CRUX), an internationally respected problem solving journal, available as a free online publication beginning this month. This initiative means every high school teacher and student in Canada and globally will be able to access CRUX as a free resource.
Record Number of Students Write the 2018 Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (Jan 18)
More than 8,000 students wrote the Open on November 8, 2018. For the 2018 COMC, in partnership with the Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN - Beijing), more than 900 high school students in China registered to write the competition.
